Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mr H. Birkbeck.

The Athlete Development Institute (ADI) has an aspirational vision of developing our most promising young, gifted athletes as they strive for personal excellence in their chosen sports and fulfill their potential.

Both Year 9 and 10 students will attend two dedicated lessons per week delivering education in holistic athletic development. These topics include, but are not limited to, sport specific skill development, goal setting, fundamental movement skills, nutrition, injury prevention, mental skills, performance culture, leadership in a sporting environment and balancing their sporting aspirations with their academic pursuits and personal lives.

Vital components of the PE & Health program curriculum will continue to be delivered, including hauora, developing positive relationships, developing problem solving skills and experiences through movement and personal identity.

Entry to ADI is by application only. Selection is based on previous sports achievement, how motivated the students are to take their sports to the next level (Performance). However, students are required to adhere to the expectations of behaving in accordance with our kairanga values as well as upholding academic effort in their other subjects. ADI students are also expected to be role models and leaders in their chosen sport.

This program is designed to support the information the students are receiving from their coaches while also providing an environment where they can interact and learn from like minded athletes.
