Course Description

This course builds upon prior knowledge gained in Level 1 Visual Art. Year 12 Visual Arts focuses on creating a stronger capability with regards to the making of art and in the knowledge of contemporary art practice. Year 12s will be introduced to an ‘Arts Development Cycle’ that will be  used to support the  generation, development and regeneration of ideas. Although starting with a collective proposition, learners will be able to respond and explore the theme in their own way.

This course leads on to Level 3 Visual Arts (A UE accredited subject) and to higher education within the field of Visual Arts and Design, including a Bachelor of Visual Art and Design with possible majors in contemporary art, photography, printmaking, sculpture, spatial design, digital design and more.

Term 1
2.2 Achievement Standard 91311 version 2 Painting
Use drawing methods to apply knowledge of conventions appropriate to painting

Still Life as Portrait
This activity requires you to demonstrate your knowledge of painting conventions and artists associated with ‘still-life’ painting by:
· creating drawings that reflect those conventions
· generating a series of related tonal drawing studies and painted studies
· producing three final paintings.
You will be assessed on the depth of your knowledge as demonstrated in your studies and paintings.

Term 2
2.3 Achievement Standard 91316 version 2 Painting
Develop ideas in a related series of drawings appropriate to established painting practice
In our Backyard
Using ‘In Our Backyard’ as a starting proposition you will be using the work of painting established practice to develop ideas by
Investigating the proposition our backyard and any socio-politcal or environmental issues that may affect it
Research appropriate established practice (genre, style, convention, or way of working) to your ideas
Create a series of works using selected established practice
Produce three final paintings
You will be assessed on your ability to build on your starting concept, analyse, reflect and further develop your ideas.

Term 3
Working towards the 2.4 Painting Folio Submission

Term 4
Submitting the 2.4 Folio
Summative marks for 2.2 and 2.3 entered into KAMAR.

Recommended Prior Learning

10+ Credits at L1 Visual Art or at HOD'S discretion if new to subject.
