Course Description

Gateway is a great opportunity for students who intend going directly into the workplace post school, or for students who are not sure on the direction they wish to go and are committed to complete work experience to test if a pathway is suitable for them.
Gateway is an opportunity for your son/daughter to earn NCEA unit standard (US) credits and get practical work experience in the industry or job that interests them. Wesley College has 26 places for select students to participate in this program. Every student on this program is expected to complete a minimum of 20 US credits and complete a minimum of 5 - 10 days work experience.
Options available include:
Forklift operator, crane operator, mechanics, civil engineering, construction, electrical, IT, fitness, youth work, tourism, radio broadcasting, butchery, bakery, plus much more.
There are many choices available, students can come discuss what industry they are interested in with Ms Roberts the Gateway Coordinator.
Students are also required to complete an Application form available from the Gateway office or Reception to register their interest in becoming a Gateway student. This needs to be signed by parents/caregivers and returned to Reception or the Gateway office. If shortlisted, students will then have a face-to face interview with the Gateway Coordinator and their parents/caregivers to establish suitability for the course.
