Year 13 Biology

Course Description

Senior Biology is a very natural and smooth transition from topics learned under the Living World strand in the junior school. Students are introduced to the many ways living and non-living things interact and have the opportunity to study different ecosystems.
Entry in this subject requires an open mind with a desire to explore new lines of thinking, interpreting and scrutinizing every action and reaction of an organism.
The foundation of secondary biology is dominated by genetics, which extends the students vocabulary from the junior Science genetics content. Students should be able to understand and apply Biological ideas in relation to the interactions between biotic and abiotic factors.
High level of achievement in L3 Biology is essential to gain entry to Science and Health Sciences courses at different tertiary institutions in NZ and overseas.

Recommended Prior Learning

11 credits at NCEA Level 2 in Biology with 4 from an external exam.
